Hatra - sculptures

Hatra was an ancient city in upper Mesopotamia, now the Ninevah Governate in northern Iraq. A religious and trading centre of the Parthian empire, it flourished during the 1st and 2nd centuries BCE. Hatra was noted for the large number of statues many associated with its temples. The archaeological site suffered extensive damage under ISIS and today the surviving sculptures and statues are mainly in museum collections. A gallery for Tech4Heritage
