Konrad Mergner (1880-1934) was a teacher in Lemgo. The father of two sons is described as a meticulous and accurate teacher and as an official loyal to the emperor. He is said to have been strict but fair and tended to take notes of everything. Mergner was not fundamentally opposed to the war, for him what was happening represented an "inevitable evil".
