Funchal - the capital of the Portuguese island of Madeira

Funchal was founded more than 500 years ago. The city today has just under 120. 000 inhabitants, which means almost half of the total of around 26. 000 inhabitants of Madeira lives in and around Funchal The island belongs to Portugal and is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about 730 kilometers west of the Moroccan coast and about 950 kilometers from Lisbon.
