It is possible to read the title "The Good Child" on the page of the book that the little girl has opened in front of her. Her gaze is as delicate as the fabrics that surround her. Balder conceived this portrait of the child - which corresponds to aesthetic as well as moral standards regarding how portraits of children should be painted at the time of Romanticism - with great subtlety.
