World Within Walls collection: Main Building (Body of the House) - Interior

This is the original asylum building which opened in 1869. It was then known as the Cavan and Monaghan Lunatic Asylum. The first patients admitted to the asylum came from Armagh asylum which was at that time very over crowded. Designed by Dublin-based architect John McCurdy.
