Streptococci bacteria are responsible for a wide range of skin and throat diseases, including scarlet fever and tonsillitis. If the bacterium gets into the blood, more serious conditions develop. This immune serum contains antibodies from an animal infected with streptococci and would be injected into a human patient to gain immunity from the bacteria.
