Dolman coat with bead embroidery
In 1821, Bernard Bahlmann started what was to become the chain of shops called Bahlmann & Co. In the 1830s Bahlmann, originally from Germany, was the first to sell clothes off-the-peg in the Netherlands. These were mostly garments without a detailed cut, such as coats. This dolman – being halfway between a coat and a cape - was bought at the Amsterdam branch.
