Heating pipes, Ostia
Detail of heating pipes in Ostia, Terme del Bagnino Buticosus (I, XIV, 8). Athough the structure is generally dated to the reign of Trajan, important modifications were undertaken during the middle of the 2nd century. The wall, in opus mixtum, has been covered by heating pipes firmed in place by iron nails. Parts of the plaster covering the pipes still survive.
